Overview
The Mosaic Micro School is seeking a visionary, creative, and highly adaptable Lead Teacher to spearhead our mixed-age classroom (Grades 2–5). This role is designed for an educator who thrives outside the boundaries of traditional schooling.
Our mission is to cultivate a self-paced, project-based environment where academic excellence and creative expression are inextricably linked. As the Lead Teacher, you will be the architect of a learning culture that values curiosity, community contribution, and the unique developmental journey of every child.
Core Responsibilities
Adaptive Core Instruction: Facilitate daily "open and go" curriculum for Math and English Language Arts (ELA) in small groups and 1:1. While the foundational materials are provided and require very little prep, the Lead Teacher is responsible for identifying individual learning gaps, providing targeted 1-on-1 support, and accelerating instruction for students ready for a challenge.
Differentiated Instruction: Manage a multi-age classroom by facilitating individualized learning paths, ensuring both a 2nd grader and a 5th grader feel appropriately challenged and supported.
Collaborative Unit Design: Partner with the Director to co-develop and lead immersive, cross-curricular studies in Geography and World Cultures. These units should bridge research with creative, hands-on applications that bring global perspectives into the classroom.
Facilitation of "Curiosity Club": Mentor students in our signature "Curiosity Club," a student-led inquiry block. You will act as a facilitator—guiding children as they formulate deep questions, navigate research resources, and develop creative ways to present their findings to the cohort.
Project-Based Science & Arts: Weave Science and Creative Arts into the weekly flow through experiential projects. The goal is to move beyond rote memorization toward a "maker" philosophy, where students learn through trial, error, and physical creation.
Social-Emotional Leadership: Foster an inclusive, empathetic classroom community. Guide students in conflict resolution, collaborative work, and the development of a "growth mindset."
Documentation & Communication: Maintain regular, meaningful communication with families regarding student progress. Curate digital or physical portfolios that showcase the "process" of learning, not just the "product."
Qualifications & Skills
Educational Background: A degree in Elementary Education or a related field. Teaching certification is preferred, but diverse experience in microschools, forest schools, or homeschool cohorts is highly valued.
Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience teaching in an elementary setting, ideally within a non-traditional or progressive framework.
Creative Aptitude: A personal passion for "making."
Adaptability: The ability to pivot lessons based on student interest and "teachable moments."
Communication: Strong verbal and written skills for navigating a close-knit community of parents, creators, and fellow educators.
Values Fit & Educational Philosophy
The Mosaic Micro School is built on a foundation of equity, inclusion, and deep respect for the individual child. The ideal candidate shares these core convictions:
Progressive Pedagogy: You believe that learning is a lifelong, joyful pursuit, not a series of standardized tests. You prioritize process over product and critical thinking over rote memorization.
Neurodiversity Affirming: You operate from a strengths-based lens, recognizing that "different" is not "deficient." You are committed to creating a sensory-aware environment and using flexible instructional strategies that honor various processing styles, communication needs, and learning profiles.
Student Autonomy: You trust that children are capable of high-level autonomy and self-direction. You see your role as a facilitator and co-learner rather than a top-down authority figure.
Inclusive Community: You believe a school should be a vibrant hub for the local community—a place where diverse families feel seen, safe, and deeply valued.
Social Responsibility: You are committed to fostering an environment that challenges bias and encourages students to think empathetically about their roles as global and local citizens.
